Prerequisites
- Access to a Poolside instance URL. If you do not have an instance URL, contact your Poolside administrator.
- Permission to install IDE extensions in your environment.
Install the extension
You must have Visual Studio Code (VS Code) version 1.85.0 or later installed.If VS Code is not installed, install it from your organization’s internal software catalog or download the latest stable release from code.visualstudio.com.
- Go to the Poolside Assistant page on the Visual Studio Marketplace.
- Click Install to open the extension details page in VS Code.
If a dialog box appears with the message Visual Studio Code is required to install this extension, click Continue.
- In VS Code, click Install.
- Restart VS Code to complete the installation.
- In VS Code, open the Extensions view by clicking View > Extensions, or by pressing
Command+Shift+X (macOS) or Ctrl+Shift+X (Windows and Linux).
- Search for
Poolside Assistant.
- On the Poolside Assistant tile, click Install.
- Restart VS Code to complete the installation.
- Obtain the Poolside Assistant extension file (
poolside.vsix) from the Poolside team.
- In VS Code, open the Command Palette by clicking View > Command Palette, or by pressing
Command+Shift+P (macOS) or Ctrl+Shift+P (Windows and Linux).
- Search for and select Extensions: Install from VSIX.
- Select the
poolside.vsix file from your local system and click Install.
- Restart VS Code to complete the installation.
You must have Visual Studio version 17.8 or later installed.If Visual Studio is not installed, install it from your organization’s internal software catalog or download the latest stable release from visualstudio.microsoft.com.

In Visual Studio, navigate to Extensions > Manage Extensions.

Search for
Poolside Assistant.

Select Install.

Restart Visual Studio to complete the installation:
a. Close Visual Studio.
b. On the VSIX Installer, click Modify to agree to the license terms and install prerequisites.
c. When the modifications are complete, click Close.
Connect to your instance

Click the Poolside Assistant icon in the VS Code Status Bar, and then select Show Poolside Assistant.

In the Poolside chat panel, click the Settings icon.

In the Poolside Settings tab, set
Poolside: URI to your Poolside instance URL.

In the Poolside chat panel, click Sign in.

Follow your organization’s sign-in process.

Navigate to Tools > Poolside Assistant.

In the Poolside chat panel, click the Settings icon.

In the Poolside Settings tab, set
Poolside: URI to your Poolside instance URL.

In the Poolside chat panel, click Sign in.

Follow your organization’s sign-in process.
If you don’t have an instance URL, contact your Poolside administrator.
In some corporate environments, your IDE might require an SSL certificate to connect to Poolside. If applicable, contact your IT team for the certificate and installation instructions.
